I haven't posted in a while. I know I suck. I'm not very good at finding time to write. I figure I'll be posting from my phone more often than not, but who knows.
Anyway, I've started a new little endeavor! Baking bread! I was kind of intimidated by doing it by hand so I bought a bread machine. It's so wonderful! I just throw in some ingredients, push a few buttons, and 3 hours later I have delicious homemade bread! My second loaf is in the machine right now.
Making bread at home is so much cheaper. I figure I'll be using the machine about every other day (we're big bread lovers here) do even factoring in the cost of the machine, it'll be at least a dollar cheaper for a loaf of bread, if not more. Plus it's a lot healthier than store bought bread. I can be picky about the ingredients I use, and there's no odd chemicals to preserve the bread. And did I mention it's freakin' delicious?
Homemade bread tends to go stale within two to three days. This is because of the lack of preservatives which I'm totally cool with. If I want, I could cut the loaf in half and freeze one half for later use. Some people will make a few loaves at a time and freeze them.
I think it'd be really cool to one day sell my bread. Maybe at a farmer's market? I've only made white bread so far (hey, I'm only on my second loaf!) so I'd have to practice with different kinds. This would also mean making them by hand since 3 hours for one loaf isn't exactly efficient for making enough to sell!
All in all I really love my bread machine and the bread that comes from it. There are so many options and I can't wait to explore them all!
